If your pet has ever been sprayed by a skunk, you know just how tough it can be to get rid of the smell. Next time, remember this recipe and save yourself some trouble.
In a plastic, not metal bucket, mix well the following ingredients:
1 liter (appr. 34 fl.oz) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap (such as Ivory or Softsoap)
For very large pets one quart of warm tap water may be added to enable complete coverage.
Wash pet promptly and thoroughly, working the solution deep into the coat. Leave the solution on about 5 minutes or until odor is gone. Some heavily oiled areas may require a "rinse and repeat" washing.
After treatment, thoroughly rinse your pet with warm tap water.
Pour the spent solution down the drain with running water.
Please note that the recipe must be made up fresh - it CANNOT be stored in a container or bottle because pressure will build up and it will explode, this can cause severe injury.
It's a good idea to keep all the ingredients togetherĀ in a bucket, along with the recipe, so you are well prepared in the event of a skunk-pet encounter.
